How about a little automotive “Never Would I Ever”. Inspired by a car I just saw on eBay, give me your best “Never would I ever buy a (car) with (problem).” I’ll get us started.
Never would I ever buy an Alfa Romeo Milano that suffered an electrical fire.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Okay, your turn.

Never would I ever buy an early 2000's automatic Honda that has it’s original transmission.....
oh wait I have done that before

Ha. That’s a good one...I’ve only owned one early 2000s Honda and it was a stick. Still, the clutch slipped.

Never would I ever buy a 1980's Subaru that had ever been near the rust belt.
/Would probably buy that Verde if he had somewhere to work on it.

Never would I ever buy a Volkswagen or Audi product with the 096/097/098 or 01M/01N/01P automatic transmissions, unless I intended to immediately replace the transmission with a manual.

I don’t think there’s a car I wouldn’t buy.

You could hear 80's Subarus rust around here.
Even as I was posting the Alfa, I was saying to myself “but if it was in New England I’d have it bookmarked”.

Never would I ever buy an old car with a massive hairline crack in the windshield. Oh, wait. I did that. Crap.

I’d never buy anything with visible rust (unless it is just that surface patina rust they get in the desert southwest). If care was that poor or rustproofing so mediocre, the horrors that await you are probably not worth the effort.
Realistically, if you want a car bad enough and the parts are available, only very recent cars are difficult to repair and only the electrical parts. Mechanical stuff isn’t a problem, it’s body/rust and electrical that tend to be the most difficult to repair.

Haha that’s awesome.

Trust me, no Mazda older than 5 years. I live in northwestern Quebec. Here everything rusts.
This is how many first gen mazda3 look.
My first brand new car was a silver 2003 protege5 that I got the dealer to do a rust proofing.
In 2004 I had even had rust showing up under the rust proofing.

I honestly expected more Audi/VW stuff on here. Because never would I ever buy an Audi/VW without 100% proof that the timing belt was recently changed.

I 100% believe this about you.

Or anything with the audi 4.2 that hadn’t done chain and chain guides.

That's a good one. Isn't that on the back of the engine for some reason?

I don’t know. I just know they lunch themselves very easily.
![]() 08/01/2016 at 10:21 |

Yup. And it runs semi-important things like the power steering pump. Never have quite figured out Audi’s engineering logic...

Yeah...
I’ve done all of these. Wouldn’t recommend any.
